Liquid Series by Alissa Volchkova is a series of porcelain vessels that explores the notion of industry and poetry in ceramics production. Developed as her thesis project at the Royal College of Art, the project originates from Volchkova’s fascination with the fluid state and aspect of the clay material. The collection brings together two production processes: a vessel is first slip cast then decorated by pouring dyed slip on the piece and allowing to dry. The resulting piece is unique each time, determined by the unpredictability of spontaneous slip movement and kiln firing. Once dry, the pieces can be stacked together to create decorative, sculptural objects, Volchkova’s poetic interpretations.
