At the Studio Vases by Rimma Tchilingarian is a collection of two-part vases made of porcelain that can be interchanged and combined every way imaginable. The project grew out of Tchilingarian’s wish to experiment with the material without restrictions or conventions. While the modern porcelain industry produces homogeneous, standardized objects, Tchilingarian’s goal was to push the material into unexpected territories. To achieve this she experimented with pigments, textures and glazing. On The Surface Vase, for example, Tchilingarian transferred the tender and irregular folds of paper onto the surface of the porcelain. The Gradient Vase features delicate marbling on it’s body, while The Dot Vase has hand applied, random dots on it’s body. All vases are handmade in the Berlin studio of Tchilingarian and are completely unique.
