Aoki Pendant by James Irvine

The Aoki Pendant by Wellington, New Zealand based designer James Irvine is a pendant lamp inspired by minimalist Japanese ceramicist Ryota Aoki. The pendant contrasts modern digital fabrication and traditional craft. 3D printed from ceramic, each pendant is printed after a uniques digital model. Designed through 3D modelling software Grasshopper, the change in form is reflected in the pendants intended environment. As the light is directed around a room, the digital model changes its semantics (meaning/purpose of the light), in turn, the form manoeuvres until the ideal model is reached and printed.
