Nino Sarabutra’s installation titled What Will You Leave Behind is a reflection on mortality and death. By filling the gallery floor with more than 100,000 miniature porcelain skulls and inviting to walk on them, Sarabutra reminds us that every step we take is a step closer to our own demise, yet we never know which will be the last.
I want people to ask themselves how they live, what are the doing – if today was your last on earth, what did you leave behind?
Nino asked a range of people to help create the skulls – family, friends, neighbors, student, workers, etc. While making them, they were asked to contemplate their life and think about what will the leave behind. Their answers, along with answers given through the internet, will be projected on one of the walls of the gallery.
