The Unilever Series: Ai Weiwei

On an other note from Jingdezhen, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s installation for the Unilever series in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern in London features 100 million sunflower seeds made from porcelain. The seeds were individually hand-made in Jingdezhen, bringing attention to the traditional manufacturing methods of Chinese porcelain and giving jobs to hundreds of people in a town that is built on an industry that is lacking nowadays.

Go to the exhibitions website to learn more about the delicate layers of interpretations the work is inviting, as well as a video about the production of the piece. Truly astonishing!
